Doç. Dr. Mehmet Sadık Akyar

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akyar was born in 1966 in Turgutlu, Manisa. He completed his education at Işıklar Military High School and graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Turkish Military Academy. He earned his master’s degree in International Relations and Security from the Turkish Military Academy War College. Subsequently, he graduated from the Armed Forces Academy and completed his PhD in International Relations at Gazi University with a dissertation entitled ‘The United States’ New Middle East Policy in the 2000s and Turkey.’ He served in various units of the Turkish Armed Forces. He is currently engaged in academic work in the fields of international relations, defense, and security, focusing on the following areas:

He served in various positions, including Coalition Forces Liaison Officer (1991), Azerbaijan Training Officer (1995), JCSE NATO Intelligence Analysis Officer (2003), 3rd Corps NATO NRF Logistics Officer (2004), NATO ISAF-7 Liaison Officer (Afghanistan, 2005), Military Attaché in Brussels (2009), and Branch chef of Modernization Projects in Chef of General Staff HQ and the COS of Cavalry and Training Division in 2014, he voluntarily retired with the rank of Staff Colonel.

Between 2016 and September 2025, he served at Girne American University as General Secretary, lecturer and head of department at Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of International Relations As of October 2025, he has been serving as Secretary General of International University of Alasia. He has authored and contributed to numerous national and international articles, books, book chapters, and research projects in the fields of regional studies (the Middle East and Africa), defense industry and security, terrorism and he continues his academic work in these fields. In addition, he regularly participates in national and international media programs and publishes opinion pieces. He is fluent in English and French.
